Ms. Hynes' Sustainability Makers Lab
Fantastic Fourth Grade
Welcome to the 4th Grade page! Here you will find information and resources about the topics we are learning about, vocabulary, journal prompts, and sneak peek photos of our projects!!!
Homework
#1: What is Sustainability?
What happened during the GO FISHING game?
What could you have done differently to be more sustainable in fishing?
How does this relate to the world and sustainability?
**Think about protecting the Earth, its resources, and what we NEED vs. what we WANT!
#2: Magazine Research
- Read your Conservationist For Kids magazine.
- Write a journal entry teaching me (Ms. Hynes) what you learned!
**Must be one page of writing with underlined vocabulary and details. Don't just copy! Put it into your own words:)
#3: Ecosystem/ Exploration Project
Depending on your class, you need to research your animal, ecosystem, habitat, or exploration area. In order to begin building our projects, we need to have this information to help us make them stronger!
#4: Threats to Biodiversity
Write a journal entry about the threats to biodiversity and what we can do to help stop it.
Habitat loss (deforestation, people building on land, etc.)
Invasive species- species that take over habitats and cause chaos
pollution- air, water, and trash
poaching- illegal hunting
Overharvesting- taking too many( fishing too much, etc.)
#5: Conservation Status
Write a journal about the Conservation Status of species. Include your thoughts on protecting animals and plants that fall into the various categories and the challenges that they may face doing so.
Healthy/ Least Concern: evaluated as not being a focus of species conservation
Vulnerable: likely to become endangered unless the circumstances that are threatening its survival and reproduction improve
Threatened: a plant or animal species generally perceived as likely, in the near future, to become endangered
Endangered: seriously at risk of extinction
Extinct: there are no more individuals of that species alive anywhere in the world
*Ecosystems and Habitat Research Exploration Research
- Characteristics of the ecosystem Fill in the chart that you copied in class
-Geography (examples of where they are located) with the
- Species (animal and plants that live there)
- Interactions- how they work together to survive
